The Era of Entrepreneurship
The post 2008 crisis world is commonly described as VUCA, an acronym standing for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous. For many, such as world is far from being a decent place to live.
I believe real entrepreneurs see it very differently. They envision the changes generated in a VUCA world as so many new opportunities of doing things.
I believe entrepreneurship goes beyond the classical definition that describes it as “« the ability to turning an idea into a profitable business » by selling a product or a service that provide a value to those who are willing to pay for it.
I believe entrepreneurship is first of all about having a specific mindset and spirit and that everyone can develop and nurture his or her own entrepreneurial talent.
I believe that entrepreneurship is ultimately about:
Undertaking and taking charge
building the life you want for yourself and shaping your own future
while trying to reduce uncertainty in the face of change
Entrepreneurs have a way to deal with things, a proper mindset, which is in essence the set of skills that are needed to adapt to change. They are “comfortable with taking risks” and “have the know-how, confidence and resilience to innovate in the face of challenges.
Such a mindset is precisely the on needed as employment undergoes an historical change[, as shown in the graph below 2] :
I trust that an entrepreneurial spirit is the number 1 factor of success in today’s VUCA job market.
Mark Zuckerberg has made it very clear in his 2017 Harvard Commencement address :
Now we’re all entrepreneurial, whether we’re starting projects or finding our role. And that’s great. Our culture of entrepreneurship is how we create so much progress.
